Celebrities design clothing in aid of War Child UK

War Child is striving for a world where children’s lives are no longer torn apart by war.

We protect, educate and stand up for the rights of children caught up in conflict. We aim to reach children as early as possible when conflict breaks out, and stay to support them through their recovery – helping to keep them safe, give them an education, and equip them with skills for the future.

We understand children’s needs, respect their rights, and put them at the centre of the solution – from supporting Syrian children to access education, to reintegrating child soldiers in the Central African Republic and promoting justice for young people in detention in Afghanistan. Together with our partners we work in 15 countries across Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and Latin America.

We also work with children and young people to change systems and practices that affect them – campaigning on the root causes of conflict and demanding that children are at the centre of humanitarian response.

War Child UK continues its collaboration with Britain’s top designers and musicians to bring bold new designs and stand out pieces – all in aid of children affected by war.

To celebrate World Children’s Day, War Child launched brand new designs for 2019 from leading names in the luxury fashion industry such as Bella Freud, as well as top British musicians; alt-J, KT Tunstall, The Wombats and Deaf Havana to refresh the historic #WearitForWarChild campaign.

London-based fashion designer Bella Freud said “I’m honoured to be involved in War Child’s UK #WearitForWarChild campaign this year for World Children’s Day. After such a successful campaign in 2018, I am happy to collaborate again.

Donating or purchasing an item from the collection make a difference to the lives of thousands of children affected by war”

World Children’s Day carries such an important link to War Child’s work supporting children affected by conflict. The new designs feature inspirational slogans, stylish graphics and fun prints, to allow everyone to stand together and show their support for children forced to live with the brutality of war. The campaign has already inspired the likes of Kate Moss, Fearne Cotton, Billie Piper and War Child’s ambassador Vanessa Kirby to don their favourite designs on Instagram.

The versatile collection includes a range of t-shirts, sweatshirts and tote bags, perfect to get your hands on just before Christmas. #WearItForWarChild will be raising money to support War Child’s vital work delivering high-impact programmes across Afghanistan, Iraq, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic and Yemen. This is fashion with a difference.

Rich Clarke, Head of Music at War Child UK says: “We’re incredibly honoured to be adding these amazing designs to our existing #WearitforWarChild campaign. The unique and personal designs from alt-J, KT Tunstall, Deaf Havana, and The Wombats are a really special touch to this campaign and we are so grateful for their backing.

Since 1993, we have worked with hundreds of thousands of children, standing up for their rights and helping them to cope with the devastating effects of war. But there are still millions more in urgent need assistance. Conflicts around the world continue to bring new waves of violence and disruption to children’s lives, leaving lifelong physical and emotional scars. Exciting collaborations like this make it possible for us to support children in their journey to recovery and allow them to fulfil their potential.”

The newly updated collection is available to purchase exclusively from www.wearitforwarchild.com on Wednesday 20 November, with prices starting at £25. Proceeds from each sale will be donated to War Child UK.

Speaking about their motivations behind getting involved with #WearitForWarChild, here is what KT Tunstall and Deaf Havana said about their debut designs;

“When I got asked to create the tee (for WIFWC), it really made me think about how lucky I am, and how lucky my family is. I think all children should have the opportunity to draw, colour and most importantly be free to use their imagination. Unfortunately, so many children don’t get these opportunities. Therefore, my idea for the t-shirt was to let my 2 daughters draw things that make them happy.

Hopefully with the amazing work that War Child do, they can help give more children similar opportunities.

War Child has always been a charity close to our (Deaf Havana) hearts. War is bloody awful, and there is also way too much hate in the world, but when it affects children it makes my stomach turn. We will always do everything we can to support this cause.”

KT Tunstall
“War Child remains an extremely important cause, providing support and relief for children all over the globe having to grow up in impossible circumstances. I am grateful to be able to help them however and wherever I can.”
