London based House producer DJ Chillz has allowed her passion for music to be the driving force in her life. Her captivating new single, ‘Higher’ a testament to what happens when that passion meets the perfectionist within. While remaining true to her genre, DJ Chillz still manages to skillfully incorporate Afrobeats and RnB to create her personal sound. We decided to learn a little more about one of the visionary women in the House music industry.

Tell us about your earliest musical memory?

Making mixtapes and mixes for family functions and birthdays. Trying to work out a keyboard that was brought for my sister.

At what point in your life did you have that moment where you said to yourself “This is it. This is the type of music I want to create?”

After my dad died, I decided to explore music more and explore who I was so while I was at college studying engineering I was working on music every day for 10 months straight but I loved it and I noticed I wanted to create a sound that incorporated my love for African sounds, Electronic Music and powerful lyrics.

Ableton Live, Soundtoys VST, Waves, Axiom 88 midi,

What inspires you outside of music? What do you turn to when the creative well runs a little low?

My family, friends and nature. Nature more and just being aware of the present and what is going on around me. I go into a zone of gratitude that I am able to do what I love.

What is your opinion on the ever-spreading sub-genre vine? Are there too many? Do you think there’s perhaps a sub-genre that doesn’t get the attention it deserves?

I think its great, music and its definition should have no limits personally you can’t define creativity. It’s just when a piece of music connects with a group of people they give it a genre it’s a beautiful cycle of creating and connecting with people, but that’s my opinion.

Studio work and music creation or performing and interacting with a live audience, what do you prefer?

I think I’m honestly split 50/50 on this…. I have experienced both and I love both. I love the process of creating and then seeing how it resonates it with people and how they express this by dancing, sending me messages or just streaming my music.

As a music artist, it becomes apparent that there is a huge difference between the art and the business. Is there anything about the music scene that you would personally change?

The fact that the business aspect has become the foundation of it.

Any new or upcoming artists on your radar? Who shouldn’t the world sleep on?

Singers like Ruby Francis, Laura Roy, Geo Music, Melle Brown to name a few

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

I really want to do something amazing for 2020 gig wise that I’m working on at the moment. But for the rest of the year, I will be releasing music and DJ’ing a lot more at events and aim to push the sound to the people.
